These things are very quiet! You will be amazed if you are expecting a lot of noise. Does yours have a spring starter? These really make them easy to start. The .09 has a red cylinder head, the .06 a blue one. As far as starting and running them, If you are new, I implore you to go to this site and read the info. It explains everything about starting and running diesels and is the most comprehensive info I have ever read! I have been running diesels for 30 years and this is the bible.
