DC engines are easy to start and run well. Don't expect super performance. They are mildly tuned and very tolerant of poor settings on the part of the owner, also, they run forever. If you are looking for high performance, look elsewhere. If you want average performance and ease of running , it would be hard to recommend a better engine. Great for newcomers to diesel. They were originally made on the Isle of Man, but are now made elsewhere on the mainland.

The DC sabre is 1.5 cc. Never seen a picture of one with an RC carb.

None of the DC engines were ever throttled as far as I know. I'm still looking for a NIB DC Rapier 2.5.

thanks for the response so these diesels are easier to start than glow motors?

i am now unsure of a suitible prop size because i have heard that diesels are designed to turn with less rpm and will swing a bigger prop up to 3-4" bigger infact!

is this correct?

i am aware that too small a prop will wear the liner out faster and bearings. but a prop too large will also induce damage to the bearings?

can any one recomend a prop as this engine is old i can not find any info online and have no instructions.

thanks Ben

I run my Sabre with an 8" prop, pitch somewhere between 4 and 6 inch. It will turn a 9*4 as well, but quite slow.

It doesn't even have bearings, it may not even have bushings, I'll have to look. Many of these engines like the MVVS .09 run in their aluminum case with no bearing and they last for a long, long time with the right fuel. It will outlast many planes so don't fret. I run a 8/4 and it works well. Don't use too large a tank as it seems to be more sensitive than others to fuel draw in my experience.

Re Bearings, DC motors are not ball raced but use a brass or phospher bronze bush, these are very long lasting.

Re: props; yes 8 x 6 or 9 x 4 should be good.

Starting diesels is a knack, try and find someone to show you if you can, its soon learned but is different to glows.

thanks i have seen many similar engines no wand am unsure if this is actuly a sabre. i will get you a pic or 2.

i will try on a 8*4 as this is what i have in stock at the moment but noise may be a problem as i am sure you are aware unscilenced engines realy screem and that is no good at my field!

i have no one too show me but have been using glows for ages and here all you do different is wind in the compression lever until it fires and back it of when running.

i can not test running untill i get some zygon? fuel tubing

These things are very quiet! You will be amazed if you are expecting a lot of noise. Does yours have a spring starter? These really make them easy to start. The .09 has a red cylinder head, the .06 a blue one. As far as starting and running them, If you are new, I implore you to go to this site and read the info. It explains everything about starting and running diesels and is the most comprehensive info I have ever read! I have been running diesels for 30 years and this is the bible.
