Goldberg ultimate / push rods
I know this is "going against the flow", but I just want to make an argument for smaller engine size. My Ultimate has an OS91Fx, which is the same weight as the 61Fx. A buddy has one with an OS120 (admittedly an older model). Mine will knife forever, on less than half throttle, while his knife's poorly at full throttle. Mine has unlimited vertical, but not enough to hover (haven't played with props though).
I think that lightness is the key, and maybe the bigger engines (with subsequent weight and balance problems) degrade the performance of this wonderful flying plane.
Just a question, what solution have you all found to the undercarriage problem. The ones that came in the Goldberg kit were too soft. I went to 5mm spring steel and they still bent (and my landings are not all greasers, but they were not "hard"). I then had the steel heat treated and tempered, and the damn thing snapped on the weekend.
Is there a carbon-fibre or dural u/c that fits? Haven't found any in Australia. Any other solutions?
Thanks
