The GWS ESC can handle the Li-pos just fine. The problem comes with the low voltage cutoff. The minimum voltage for your Li-po patts is higher than the LVC for the GWS ESC's. If you try to fly the plane until the ESC cutts power, you'll ruin your pack. This doesn't mean that it won't work though, you just need to keep an eye on the voltage of your pack.
