Default RE: Super Stunts 60 setup

A) I used the standard nosegear setup on my SS 60 without any problems. I flew from a very rough dirt field and the nose gear never failed. What you propose would work but is more complicated than the provided setup.

B) For linking the ailerons and flaps together (Full Span Ailerons) you will need to do this with your computer radio. I am not familar with JR but I bet the radio you have will do this. Generally it would require plugging the right aileron into channel 1, the left into channel 6, then the flap servos into channels 7 & 8 or some such. Depends on your radio setup. With the programming available in the radio, you should be able to link up the flaps for full span ailerons with a flip of a switch. I didnt do it with my SS 60 but I have my Ultra Stick 60 set up for this with my Futaba 9C.

C) The flap throws are kinda something you need to feel your way thru as you will need to link your elevator to the flaps so that you get some down elevator when you apply down flaps. The down elevator is needed because the plane will want to go to a nose up attitude when the flaps are applied (climb) and the down elevator keeps the plane level. This is something you will need to experiement with for the settings such as 10% down elevator when you move the flaps down.
Once again I am not familiar with JR radios but on my Futaba systems you set this funtion to operate with either a rotary knob such as on my Futaba 6XAS, or a slider type knob such as on my Futaba 9C.
I would think there would be some kind of on line manual in English at the JR website.
Other than the nose gear issue, everything else you want to do will be done with the radio mixes so you need to find a manual in English. Or learn Japanese...
Hope this was of some help to you!

Hello Gurus

Hoping you can help me out here. I've done a preliminary search but able to find answers to all my issues so here goes....

Santa has arrived late, in the form of my fantastic wife, who yesterday revealed a brand new Super Stunts 60 with engine and radio. (I knew I married her for a reason.)

My basic question is: How do I set this model up? It's a bit more complicated than that so I'll break it down.

a) Rudder and nose landing gear

I don't want to convert this to a tail dragger but I don't want to connect the nose gear to the same servo as the rudder (because I don't like the control rod setup...too much angle and run on the nose gear rod). Therefore, I was going to use a separate (smaller) servo for the nose landing gear and somehow 'link' this servo to the rudder. How is this best accomplished, keeping the following in mind?

b) Aileron and flaps

Can someone recommend the most versatile setup for this? I was thinking of somehow 'linking' the flap servos to the aileron somehow so that during 'normal' flight I could select the flaps to act in concert with the ailerons. ie. full wing span ailerons. I also thought that I could then 'flip a switch' and have only the outer surfaces to act as ailerons and the inner ones revert to flap function only. Am I dreaming? Perhaps there's enough aileron there without doing this? Perhaps there is a better setup thank the one I conconcted here?

c) Flap control throws

Any recommended throw measurements? Not mentioned in the instructions.

I would appreciate any feedback. I've read about "Y' connectors and servo reversers....all new to me...except the use of Y connectors for linking 2 normal aileron actions. If I sound like a numpty, it's because all of my previous modelling has been perfomed with a basic 4 channel radio. Reeeal basic. I've never used a computer radio before. Which brings me to the next question.

d) Radio

Wifey got me a JR PCM 9X. I don't know much about it but it looks like it's up to the task. More switches and buttons than 747 flight deck it seems. Manual is in Japanese but I like a challenge.

I would really appreciate the help. Many thanks to you all.
