I understand your lament. I agree that your best bet would be to browse around the soaring and glider forums here at RCU. The people in this hobby, are for the most part, friendly people more than just a little willing to share their knowledge with any who ask for it.

If you're looking for someone who will be more of a mentor and penpal type of friend, they can be found. Again, looking in the places where people that share your interests will be will be the fastest way to finding that friend. Personally, I would be honored to share knowledge and a friendship with you, but our interests differ. I moved from gliders to power too many years ago to be up on all the current products and skills needed today.
