My advice, and bear with me: A person you can meet face-to-face is worth 50 people online. So, go find your local model soaring club, and figure out who can help you there.
Also, have a look in the gliders section:

I wholeheartedly agree. But one perk of RCU is there's always someone on 24/7 so your question is usually answered within a half hour no matter when you post it

Underage,
I understand your lament. I agree that your best bet would be to browse around the soaring and glider forums here at RCU. The people in this hobby, are for the most part, friendly people more than just a little willing to share their knowledge with any who ask for it.
If you're looking for someone who will be more of a mentor and penpal type of friend, they can be found. Again, looking in the places where people that share your interests will be will be the fastest way to finding that friend. Personally, I would be honored to share knowledge and a friendship with you, but our interests differ. I moved from gliders to power too many years ago to be up on all the current products and skills needed today.
I wish you the best of luck, and I'm certain that you will come across someone with similar interests shortly.
