I have also thought long and hard of a method of eliminating the glow driver ( Apart from an on board one )
just put a remote glow plug on instead. I run one on every plane I have, a very small price ($10) to pay for the added convience and safey, plus it looks cool! The added weight is almost nothing, so that isn't a concern as compared to a on board glow.
