I am putting together a 66" VF Edge 540 and am using Dubro Nylon pin hinges on the control surfaces. I have the hinges epoxied in using 30 minute stuff (it's all I have). I have heard/read that a round toothpick can be put thru the wing and hinge to basically keep the hinge from being pulled out.
My question is, does the toothpick get epoxied in as well or is it wicked with thin CA? Is there anything else I should do/know to ensure that this planes stays together for at least a couple of flights?
Thanks,
After your hinges epoxied are into place and dry carry out the following:
1) Drill a 1.5 mm hole through the underwing wing edge and into the hinge, this can be one or two holes per side as required.
2) Add a spot of CA to the tip of a cocktail stick and push firmly into the drilled hole and through the hinge.
3) Cut off the stick as shown.
4) Now you can either brush a spot of fuel proofer over the exposed stick end or make some covering pieces from a paper hole punch and iron into place![8D]
