RE: What engine for P-39??? help!!!
paladin,
With tearing it apart and looking I am pretty sure I used the same mount that was with it, but I don't recall that being real important. I think you could use several different mounts. I mounted mine sideways. I did not have to alter the nose. Yes, it does stick out the right side, but I always say, They must fly first and look good second, and yes it does a nice job in the air. I threw away the plastic cowl. I made the bottom half of the cowl area solid and made an aluminum panel around the engine screwing it on with very small screws for effect. Looks great. Speaking of panels, I made all the panels out of aluminum and attached them to the plane with the cut off straight pins. I drilled all the holes and glued the short pins in to simulate fastners. Several panels on this bird! I also used aluminum to create all the inspection hatches on the plane. All rivets and panel lines are on also using the tape method and soldering iron for the rivets. Painted drab and grey. I used Robarts all around. The front one that you asked about has worked flawlessly. I cut down bigger Robarts for the main gears because a wanted a robust look. Lots of trouble there, but turned out good.
Good Luck
