jeffeerc,
I would look at the RCV 60 if I were you. I would like to build this kit (I would like to build ALOT of kits) and that is the engine I would use. It would offer the most room in the cowl. Check it out and let us see your build. Good luck.

I have the TF P-39 kit under my workbench as next in line for assembly. I, too, was considering the RCV 60, but somewhere in my research I seem to recall that I was advised it might be too long for the stock installation. If you want much cowling on the right side, it still sounds like a good choice, maybe the only one. Just check the dimensions before you decide to go that route.

I have one on my to build list also and I'm planing to use a .60 2 cycle (probably OS). I have a buddy that had the red box p-39 that weighted 10.5# and done up very scale like and it flew with a non schnurl .60 and flew very well (1970's vintage). It did not have alot of vertical but neither did the real one.

Just got the nose gear for this one on saturday what a steep price$$$$

Good luck

If you put the RCV in the TF kit,... HOW do you expect to cool it. I would not do this. I have the RCV and it requires alot of air over it.

I have the TF 60 size Gold Edition p 39. I have flown it for the past season without any mishaps. I installed an OS 91 4 stroke. Yes it does stick out the right side, put really did fit in really well. I run a 14 x 7 three blade prop and it flys and sounds very scale. Front retract and engine mounting was compatible.

bkmust, did you use the engine mount that came with the kit or a different one? If different which one? where you able to keep the nose the same length or stretch it? Or does it stick out the nose a bit? /and did you use the robart nose gear?

paladin,
With tearing it apart and looking I am pretty sure I used the same mount that was with it, but I don't recall that being real important. I think you could use several different mounts. I mounted mine sideways. I did not have to alter the nose. Yes, it does stick out the right side, but I always say, They must fly first and look good second, and yes it does a nice job in the air. I threw away the plastic cowl. I made the bottom half of the cowl area solid and made an aluminum panel around the engine screwing it on with very small screws for effect. Looks great. Speaking of panels, I made all the panels out of aluminum and attached them to the plane with the cut off straight pins. I drilled all the holes and glued the short pins in to simulate fastners. Several panels on this bird! I also used aluminum to create all the inspection hatches on the plane. All rivets and panel lines are on also using the tape method and soldering iron for the rivets. Painted drab and grey. I used Robarts all around. The front one that you asked about has worked flawlessly. I cut down bigger Robarts for the main gears because a wanted a robust look. Lots of trouble there, but turned out good.

Good Luck
