RE: Tuning engine
When the throttle is wide open (we call it WOT), you should see a thin blue stream of smoke from the pipe. You don't see any smoke then your main needle (HSN) is too lean and you need to adjust it slightly counter-clockwise (1 hour at a time). If you see a lot of smoke or if it has the nasty "boggin" sound at WOT, then the HSN is too rich. You adjust this with a 1 hour turn clockwise. Run the buggy some more (needs to be at least 30 seconds for the new setting to take effect).
For the low speed needle (LSN), I adjust mine with my idle times. I put my Idle Set Screw (ISS) so that it has a 1mm gap (works good for most engines). Then I clean out the engine and count how many seconds it will idle for. I run 20% nitro and I let it idle for 20 seconds before it loads up and dies. If it idles too long the LSN is too lean, richen the LSN (counter clockwise) an 1/8th of a turn and try again. If it loads up and dies before 20 seconds has passed it's too rich, so you lean the LSN (clockwise) 1/8th of a turn. Remember to run the car for 30 seconds between adjustments. Also if the carb isn't fully unloaded, it will change your idle times. I usually give it a shot of WOT followed by full brake and then start counting... one one thousand, two one thousand...
This won't give you a perfect tune, but it gets you running pretty good. As time goes on, you will learn different things that will help you tune better.
Also the stock carb on that Hyper engine is pretty hard to tune. Upgrading the carb makes this process much easier.
