I am a newbe...Can anyone tell me why a fuel line goes to the muffler?
It doesn't really. It comes FROM the muffler.

When the engine is running there is a high pressure in the muffler. This pressure is "pumped" in to the fuel tank creating a high pressure inside the fuel tank. This helps to "push" the fuel to the carbeurator.
