If the 58" plane uses a plastic fairing to cover the fin/stab joint as the 66" does, I think you can provide adequate reinforcement by tossinf the plastic fairing in the bin an building up a balsa block to occupy the same space. Shape to fit and cover with some of the eftover bits of covering that are provided and away you go!
