RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: Chip Hyde's Cap-X - Building & Flying
Tailspnr, like you I am putting a gasser on this plane, in my case a Brison 2.4. I can tell you this though, a big glow such as a Saito 1.80 or YS 1.40 would make anyone happy jerking it around. My reasons for the gasser are purely economical. My big Saitos burn a ton of fuel and I fly just about every day in the summer. It wouldn't be unreasonable to assume a gallon a day in fuel costs and that adds up quick.
I did talk to Chip about the engine choices for the plane and while he did test the Cap-X with a DA 50, he didn't recommend it, which is why I chose to use the Brison on mine. He said the OS 1.60 or a YS 1.40 would be perfect for it . A gasser will work but the plane wasn't really designed for one as was implied in the original ads. They just put one on it as an expirement. I am planning on pinning the firewall and glassing it as well, in addition i will reinforce the wing saddle area and all of the cross bracing joints in the plane. I suggest you do the same. The RCS 140 or 180 would probably be a good choice of gasser for this plane or one of the MVVS engines, and then hopefully my choice, the Brison. Obviously the DA will work on the plane, as its been done, but I dunno how long the plane will hold up under the stress. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.
