I don't think many people here think that badly of Americans, that's the stuff the press are shoving down your throat.
My own personal theory is, "every joke is inspired by a serious thought", so don't ever think like that, it'll only harm you.
Get some flying in instead! - much more fun, forget what people think! Just do it.
