HI BB! I think the ply sandwiching idea would give too much strength in the direction that you don't need it in, if I interpret your description right. I think a 1/2" wide box made out of 1/8" balsa sheet strips would be an improvement over the arrow shaft, it would be a challenge to make something like that look nice, but if a guy is really sold on trying an idea to make it work, you never know what might come of it. That's great about the $13 repair! I hope the AP 061 catches on with more people so it remains available for years to come.
