RE: Seagull Models Extra 300S .60 Questions
Hi guys its the wolf again , well The day came when I finally got the extra out of the house and to the field .Fired up the 91 fix I had in it for a power plant and let it run a tank thru it to break things in a little .Well after a few engine adjustments and some double checks to the plane I filled it back up and taxied out . did a few runs up and down the strip to make sure the tail wheel was tracking ok and then off into the blue I went .The plane flew well with almost no trim I think one click on the ailerons no biggy . I didn't push it hard the first flight just some loops rolls hammer heads thats sort of thing, at half or less throttle. So far so good !Then comes the mandatory part we all have to do, the dreaded landing on the first flight .I lined up with the runway eased off the power and the plane was doing fine until the last 3 feet off the ground I ran out of elevator ,lucky for me it was just a bounce without any damage. So I added just a little more elevator than what I had and again went over the plane to make sure nothing had came loose.and up I went again , this time about 3 mins into the flight my trim changed alot I had to add several clicks of up elevator to keep it level .In fact I had very little elevator control so my thoughts was to get this bird on the ground ASAP . Well this plane does not land so hot when you don't have elevator I did get in on the runway with a huge bounce and when it went air born again the side wind grabbed the wing and flipped it upside down Needless to say it came sliding down the runway (asphalt) on its top ,really added to the looks of the plane alot *L* So I walked out and gathered it up took the wing off and to my surprise one of the Allen screws had worked itself loose thus no elevator on one side .As long as I've been in this hobby I knew better than to use them things but I thought HUmmmm well they should work ok .WRONG EZ type connectors belong on park flyer's not gas planes *L* I would also suggest to anyone that used the plastic connectors to change them out also.
All and all though The planes flys well and for the money its a good deal.. OH FYI for those that didn't already know this topflight luster coat true red is the exact match for cowl on this plane I was able to just sand the bad place off prime it and do a spot job,a little buffing and you couldn't even see it .For red thats unreal . I wish you all many happy landings
