Default RE: Its Here!! Double Vision

Well, I had hoped to keep it in the 2000 watt range and use a single Hacker C50 Acro 14XL with a 10S4P Thunder Power LiPoly battery pack. This is basically the same power system that Jason Shulman uses in his pattern planes.

However, with the additional weight it looks more like a 3000 watt system would be needed. That would be a pair of Hacker C50 14XLs in an InnerDemon drive with 4x4S4P Thunder Power packs. That's 8 lbs of batteries and 4 pounds of motor.....and pretty pricy too. I'd go the extra money for the 3Kw system if I thought the plane itself would fly well at 22-23 lbs, but I really don't think it will.

Now if my DV was 2-3 lbs lighter as advertised I could justify the expense of the electric power system since the plane would preform well at that weight. But at 23lbs it's hard to justify an expensive power system when the performance will be marginal.

I dunno...... I could probably spend a bunch of money on CF parts and look to using lighter servos and such to get the weight down. Also, for comparison purposes I could look at what the take off weight of the gasser would be with a full tank and maybe get some numbers that make me feel comfortable.

Right now, I'm feeling a little betrayed by the MFG and their weight range numbers.
