I finally got back to working on the DV again, and I assembled it all for the first time. But it does not fit together as well as I would like.....the wing struts do not fit very well and you have to twist the wings quite a bit to get them to seat properly. Is this normal? I believe the cabane is properly assembled with the struts going from low to high toward the prop. and I have checked the incidence on the center wing rib and it checks out.

i have the first style DV my cabane goes from low in front to high to the rear, and i am not sure but the 2nd version goes high front to low rear i think, all you can do is just try it, i know i was flipping and spinning to get mine to fit.
ENJOY!

Finally got around to finishing my DV, after mounting the rudder controll horn-then I noticed it will not clear the elevator!! What the heck is wrong with this, I can only get 20-30 degrees of elevator travel this way. Has anyone mounted the rudder servo on the bottom of the fuse & put the horns way down on the rudder bottom? Its the only way I can figure out to get the 3-D travel needed on elevator. I am using a very long Dubro screw horn & pull-pull, I did test fit the supplied horns & even though its shorter it still gets in the way.

i used the supplied horns on the rudder and moved them up till the pull pull cable just touch the slot cut out in the fuse. at full up on elevator it just misses the cable clevis.

I decided on keeping the Dubro HD pull-pull arms & cutting about 5/8" off the elevator. I just didnt want to go with the provided horns & clevis, 2/56 hardware & no locks. The horn height did not have very good "mechanical advantage" either. I cut the angled edge off that provides rudder clearance, just used an X-acto to cut thru the sheeting & then finished the cut with a fine tooth saw bit. I got a clear view of whats inside the elevator , it looks like the ply mounting areas are filled with balsa wood for a solid mount, I ran thin & then thick CA in there for extra strength. I can now get full 3-D travel on rudder & elevator with ball links, HD pull-pull wire & fully adjustable horns. Getting close now, just need a bell crank & in-tank fuel filter/clunk. Oh, I still have to figure out how to connect the upper&lower ailerons.

One of my flying buddies just got one of the last DVs. He has just about finished putting it together but has a concern about the wing incidence and the engine thrust line. The engine has 2 degrees of up thrust. He is using a DA 50 engine. Does anyone know the correct incidence for the engine and wings
Thanks,
Jim

i never check the engine incidence,i just match the lower wing to the upper,i had 1 degree positive.but everything should be 0-0-0.been getting the bugs out of the ultra rc yak and forgot to fly the DV this summer.flew the DV for the first time last week end, just one great flying plane!! walls into a hover are crowd pleasers.glad i have a back up on the shelf.

I bought a double vision from chief aircraft, one of the newer versions, flew it four times in the hot summer sun and the covering is turning lose. I coated the seams with clear finger nail polish and flew four more times the next flying session and covering is turning lose at the seams. It is next to impossible to re-iron them down and if you do they are not going to stay. This has to be the worst covering on any plane at any price that I have ever had. I was so disgusted that I spent 125.00 on covering and a trim iron to recover this plane. For this extra money, not to mention the time it will take to re cover a built plane, I could have bought a Wild Hare Sukhoi or Extra. Live and learn. No wonder Chip dissapeared.

i know what your are saying about the covering i replace every stripe one mine, they all blew off by the forth flight.the joke was on the field hey do you need this peice of trim that they brought back to me.you could buy a different plane but it would not fly 3d like the DV.i love mine and have another one NIB on the shelf. i know i would sure HATE to recover the intire plane it would take me for ever to do a plane this size not to mention 10 rolls of covering.

Finally, its done!!!! Will run a tank or 2 today to see if anything comes loose, I'm a bit concerned with the long standoffs, Chip Hyde himself has said they create a lot of vibration. I ended up with only 2 5955's on the lower ailerons, it wasnt hard to do, just figuring out the "best" way can take me a while. I installed CA soaked balsa aileron stock into the bottom of the ailerons, then used DuBro 6/32 aileron screws&horns to connect upper /lower ailerons with 4/40 all thread covered w/CF tube. Will maiden this Sunday & report back. I'll fly it like there's no replacement, actually there is none, no more from Chief, Chip Hyde or anywhere else to be found.

I didnt fly it , forgot I dont have a separate gas can for break-in mix, will next weekend. I did talk to friends who also have DA50 & long stand-off with no problems, my comfort level is going up. Will come back after the maiden.
