H9 T-34 Tail Problem
Hi,
Today I went to maiden my wifes's H9 T-34. Running a Satio 72 for power and installed the H9 retracts. Halfway through the initial flight I retracted the wheels and was about the give the plane to my wife to fly. So, I put the plane into a mild diving bank to bring it lower and to make a pass of the field. During the banking turn we heard a loud "Pop" and pieces started fling off the plane. Don't know how but I was able to belly land the plane. When we looked the plane over we determined the fin pulled away from the plane and the bottom of plane was gone. Fellow club members were able to retrieve the fin and we all started to examine it. Our first thought was the glue joint gave away. But, that was ruled out, because the bottom of the fin was covered with foam and was past the glue joint. We checked the hinges and they had some wood on them, so I don't think the hinges failed on the rudder (but we haven't ruled faulty installation of the hinges). I was flying aroung on 1/2 throttle on the stick and the manuver was a low 'G'. At this point, I'm taking the plane to our LHS which is offical Horizon Dealer and leave them determine if the problem was ours or Horizons. I did hear through the grape vine that our LHS had to retrun a few H9 T-34 because of a tail problems encounter at another club. Who knows they may have another one. I will keep you posted.
