You are correct. Back in the forties and fifties when we ran the old gasoline engines, we ran on a mixture of 3 parts white gas to 1 part SAE 70 oil. The oil at that time was regularly used in the rear-end gear box on cars, and was easy to get. I just thought I'd try using modern day fuels, with synthetic oil, but I found it doesn't work in the old time engines.
