Yes, the flaperons will help save you if you loose elevator. I had most of my elevator torn off of my 'Lil Rippy', during a mid air on it's maiden flight. Luckily I had just switched on the flaperons before it happened, and landed without a problem. In fact I stayed up for the other pilot to land first, then was shocked to see how bad I had been hit.....course I wouldn't recommend this type of test!!!
