My Knife does a great elevator in DR 1. For some reason in DR 2 it just won't stay. I did some nice elevators and decided to try it all the way down to the deck. Using the rudder to bring me around a couple of times to stay in the landing zone I was able to elevator it right down to the deck. Bringing in your plane with full up elevator from sky high to the grass is very exciting! It landed as the saying goes, "Like a butterfly with sore feet". Kudos to my Knife!!

Yeah I have been doing elevators all the way down and landing out if them sometimes. Tons of fun!
How are you guys entering them? Sometimes I just do the natural level flight, stop flying go into it. Whats more fun is to do a loop into it and as its coming down on the backside of the loop pop it up into the elevator.
I like this also, elevator to about 5 or 10 feet then stopping all forward movement while the nose is comming up into a torque roll. If you position the elevator right the TR will wind up right in front of you. Now whats cooler than that?

wish I could do a full torque roll! getting closer though!!
I enter by going slow engine at idle, then tap the throttle and hit the elevator and itll pull the nose up. I dont have any mixing in it either, as far as spoilers or flaps go, it was a little windy and was very predictable!!

pull back to an idle and slowly apply ele until the stick is pegged. On lows it doesn't rock at all. I do have flap mixing with may ele at all times (take off, landing, flying, hovering - hey wait, I can only attempt to hover for now). So that may help (ele up, flaps down). If I could get it to drop at my feet I might have to be called "King of the Sod Farm"

Billy.
For elevators try mixing in spoilerons. The plane will come down a lot faster with NO wing rocking. My Top Cap comes down at about a 60 degree angle. Level fuse. WAY COOL.
My radio is set up for spoilerons and Flapperons. Both with up elevator.
One switch gives me up ailerons with up elevator (spoilerons)
Onother switch gives me down ailerons with up elevators (flapperons)
turn them both off and I have a normal, no mixing plane.
What radio are you using? I am using a Futaba T6XAS.
Initially i thought I was asking too much of this radio but with a little coaxing it works.

I'm running an 8uhfs. I got the flaperon/ele mix going but for spoilerons all I could make work was on on/off toggle (same switch as the flaperons/3way) for spoilerons. Meaning I hit the switch and they go to set amount of up. It would be great to get them to work with the ele. Might help my attempts to hover. Or would it?

Not really Billy.
For hovering I turn everything off.
Heres what I use the mixing for
Spoilerons:
Walls, elevators, pop ups etc.
Flapperons:
Harriers, waterfalls etc.

Wayne,
How did you set up your spoilerons with up ele on your 6xas?
Are you using the air brakes for moving you ailerons upward?
I have flaperons set up on the upper right hand switch, which moves the ailerons down in relation to up elevator, and the airbrake switch drops them down at a fixed rate. I am thinking of swapping the motion of the airbrake switch to moving the ailerons up instead of down. But wouldnt that remain as a fixed point?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
First thing you have to do on the T6XAS is move all the dual rates to one switch. This free's up the ELEV DR switch and now can be used for Programable Mixing (P-Mix) Doing this also ENABLES the Rudder dual rate that you dont have till you move all the DR's to one switch. ( lots of people dont know you can get Rudder DR on this radio ) To do this go to your PARA function. Once that is displayed use the cursor to move to the DRSW menu you will probably see a 1. If so, hit both + / - keys and change that 1 to a 2.
Now when you go to the DR menu you will now see 12 4. meaning that you now have a rudder dual rate. (#4)
Once that is done the ELE Dr switch is now used to control on and off for P-Mix. You need P-Mix to get spoilerons.
Set P-Mix1 to this,
Master #2 Slave #6
chnge the + or - to get the moving aileron up with up elev. Only one aileron will move at this point.
Set P-Mix2 to this,
Master #2 Slave #1
Then adjust + / - to get it going up also with up elev.
As far as the percentages to use for spoileron its hard for me to say what you need. Start with 50% and adjust after flying it.
Keep in mind that the 2 to 6 mix (flapperon) has to be off for the spoilerons to work. That seems to have priority.
Clear as mud?
Its pretty easy once you see it done.
let me know if that works for you..

Thanks Wayne. I have all my d/r's set to a single switch, so my ele d/r switch is open. I cant wait to play with it on my magic some. I was using upward thrown ailerons with my avistar to plant it on the runway in higher wind conditions, worked great. I never thought of doin it with the funfly's for elevators.

I got the spoilerons working just now. I wasn't sure about the linking and that other stuff but I managed to make it work. The 8uhfs is a great radio. Especially if I made that work just by playing around with it. I put it on 50% which seems like it might be more than enough. Thanks. I'm anxious to try it doing my elevator and harrier with it on.
I had my down elevator pull-pull wire break last week. I was wondering what I would do if the up elevator wire were to pop. I'm wondering if flipping on the spoilerons might give me a little up and down control without using the actual elevator. What do you think? Could you land with no ele and spoilerons on?

Billy,
Are your spoilerons proportional with your elevator. Meaning, do they go to one set point and stay there or do they move with elevator movement?
As for landing without a working elevator......I dont know and I dont want to find out. let us know if it happens to you.

Billy, I am running the same transmitter as you. If you turned on Flapperon in the advanced menu, and then set the elev to flap mixing, then they are tied into you elevator. To answer your earlier question, yes I have saved an aircraft in the past when the elevator servo stripped, I turned on flapperons and used throttle to save the aircraft. This is only reasong that I have them programmed into my aircraft. I don't use them for harriers, elevators, etc. Its personal preference.

Billy, if you think the knife is a blast to fly, try a Spinsation. Strap on an OS .46SF and a MVVS header and pipe and hold on.
This plane is unbelievable!!! Get a little altitude and throw the sticks to the inside corners and full throttle, amazing what it will do.
I have had mine for about 7 years and I love it.
I also have a Knife, it is one awesome plane too!!

Billy,
Yes, the flaperons will help save you if you loose elevator. I had most of my elevator torn off of my 'Lil Rippy', during a mid air on it's maiden flight. Luckily I had just switched on the flaperons before it happened, and landed without a problem. In fact I stayed up for the other pilot to land first, then was shocked to see how bad I had been hit.....course I wouldn't recommend this type of test!!!
