We need a little more back ground info
How much time on the motor? when a motor gets on it last legs it's very hard to tune.
I assume you are adjusting the needles with a brand new glow plug? a cold plug will cause the engine to die easily
Does the engine have good compression? no squeeze no go

Assuming all above are fine, I'd start looking for air leaks
