Default RE: Freestyle Rush

JohnVH, Kris, the Cyclone looks great but it wouldn't fit in my car so I'm limited to the little brother for now.

How do you rate the instruction manual for the Cyclone? I think the instruction manual for the Freestyle Rush is pretty poor especially when compared to the You-Can-Do 3D instructions. It is 12 pages as compared to the UCD's 28 pages and is based on photo's and illustrations with limited text instructions. The first thing I noticed was that there was no list of kit contents so I can only assume I'm not missing any parts. The instructions are lacking in detail regarding engine right thrust. The thrust line is laser cut into the firewall and is is centered horizontally. The instructions don't give measurements for the engine mount holes but show them as being centered also. This would yield no right thrust at all. Any suggestions?

The instructions show the elevator servo mounted inside the fuse with a push rod connected to the left elevator half and a U wire between the two elevator halves. Problem is the push rod exit cutout shown in the instructions doesn't exist on the fuse. Instead there is a servo cutout to mount the elevator servo in the tail. I dont like the U wire idea as there is no redundancy if the master elevator half is damaged. This setup would be fine for a trainer but is not ideally suited to a 3D machine with large control surfaces and the risk of elevator flutter. So far, my options are to mount the elevator servo in the fuse and run a split push rod out to the elevator halves or to try and fit two elevator servo's in the tail. I would probably need to use mighty mini servos and stagger them one above the other but from opposite sides of the tail. This would require a little more surgery. What do the experts think?

Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with the kit so far. The design, wood quality and covering material are all good and I like the pull-pull rudder set up with the control horns in the middle of the rudder. I just need to wait a few weeks for an OS FS-70 and radio gear but this will give me time to ponder the issues above.
