RE: Phoenix Giles 202
diggs_74, this is uncanny!
I have the same plane and am attempting to use the same motor with the same problems!
When using the magnum, twice i ran out of runway and ended up rolling into the long grass and tipping over.
When it finally gets into the air (luck) it wallows around the sky with a "tail -down " stance.
I have also tried the same plane with my OS 46FX. It gets of the ground better and will fly "ok" with full throttle but i have to keep the speed up in the turns.
I thought the magnum didnt work because it wasnt fully run in, so i ran the magnum in properly and wanted to re-try it (i like the sound of a 4 stroke)
Same problem; not enough power, or so it would seem.
Twice the plane tip-stalled on me and i only just recovered it.
My Giles with magnum and radio gear (minus fuel) weighs 6.25pounds ( i am not sure about the wing area).
My conclusion is that the plane is too heavy for its small size, or that it needs a larger motor with a lot more authority.
Seeing as i havent got a bigger engine yet, i am flying something else with the magnum (56inch span) which pulls almost unlimited vertical (only weighs 4.25pounds!)
I have never crashed the Giles (lucky again) but it is in the garage doing nothing!
