Gday Mike, The wing area is 3.5 sq ft which says at 6-1/4lbs = 28.5oz-sq ft...heavy !!
while I havent flown mine yet , it sounds like we need more power/speed.
it might help to wash the ailerons out a bit to help with tip stall.
ALSO there is a WEAK area in the fuz sides at the cockpit start ,where the wing rest is highest, beef up the sides with a 5 ply 1/8" doubler thru the whole wing seat area.
I'm going to take the MAGNUM 53 2st out of mine and go for a 60 2st or a 90 4st.....heavy planes have to fly faster.
