Default RE: Chip Hyde's Cap-X - Building & Flying

Just thought I'd make a comment about this airplane...

My buddy brought one out to the field yesterday and it got my attention. His setup is with a MOKI 1.8 with MJLK 18 x 10 prop.

NICE I thought to myself. Built rather well and nicely covered. Everything about this airplane is pretty nice....

His engine was acting up first and ended taking the cowl off to tune. After realizing that the problem was in the tank we also notice his rudder became unsecured. I spent about an hour working on it for him and got him backup to snuff. Rudder now works great and the ENGINE is a powerhouse.

The test flight was too funny...Take off was just the application of slightly about idle and no elevator input... the airplane was flown around a little bit an we all said ...ooooohhhh aaaaaahhhh. Very sensitive elevator for sure and snappy (maybe incorrect CG, don't know, still flew nice though) I was asked if I wanted to fly it and said sure, Liked it a lot till the engine acted up again, over heated me thinks? Not sure. I handed the TX back to our ACE test pilot to get it on the ground. What was funny was that even at idle and full down trim the airplane flew way too hot to land....this was funny. Here we are with an airplane that the engine is basically stuck running at idle and can't land it. FINALLY the engine ran out of gas...(thank goodness for the small tank on the moki 1.8) The airplane bobbed up and down a little before if finally got it's wheels down.

My thoughts on this! Nice airplane a little hyper sensitive tail(could have just been his set up and CG)

MOKI 1.8...A LOT OF POWER I bet you could fly this airplne on a 1.20 Four Stroke and still have a great flying airplane.
