I don't think anyone should have to justifigh the amount of time it take to learn to fly, we all take longer or shorter dependant on some many things. It took me about 2 months to get good enough to go to a scale body, but I did crash alot early on, the comments here are right, if your only one foot off the ground you are making life hard for yourself, having said that, I understand not wanting to go higher.
it does sound to me as if the original question seems to be one of trim and balance, many people rush this step and as a result the aircraft is unflyable. My thoughts, make sure its balaced and trimmed properly and it should lift off the ground with no trouble at all, then the fun can start.
