Default Help with HUMMIGBIRD

Hello,

I`m new to flying helicopters, i saw the Hummingbird v2 on a local hobby store and i bough it thinking that it would be esay to fly and also cheap to start with.. I bought it with the full options with the transmiter (4 channel transmitter), receiver & Gyro (but is the hummingbird gyro that comes in a mixxing board).

I`m having problems to fly the helicopter, i can`t get it to hover [:@]... I have flown on the RF G2 simulator some of the helicopters and i can maintain a hover but not with this heli....

Is there any settings that i could use to get a better flight???.

Or should i start with a different helicopter...

Sounds like you have some learning to do.
Read a lot more on this forum about what you can do to set up a heli.
All micro heli pilots must first learn to be micro heli mechanics.

These birds are skittish things at best. Don't get frustrated so quickly! Take your time and go little by little. The G2 sim is a great thing, but it's not the real thing. As close as it gets, there are still other factors that it can't take into account. So, sometimes people get a false sense of security and think they can do exactly what they practiced in the real world. Unfortunately, it's just not so.

It's a good tool to learn on and get an idea of how things work.. but in reality, it take stime to learn how to fly.

Just my two cents.

Happy Flying!

Hi,
It took me 7 months to learn to hover, so don't give up so easily. Use the forums, ask loads of questions, learn the groundwork and be patient.
Suddenly one day it'll seem so natural you'll wonder why you had so many problems.

The harder the task is to learn, the more it's worth learning!

Why did it take you 7 months to hover? It took me around 8 days with no previous experience.

Hi there, so are you saying that the helicopter will not get off the ground, or when it does get airborne it is just all over the place?

If it the first re-check everything through the manual, then check again. I have the Hummingbird with collective pitch so I have no experience with the fixed pitch version.

If it is the latter then it would seem to be almost normal as these things, as mentioned above are scatty at the best of times. One thing though, how high are you getting her off the ground and then expecting her to hover, if you can, push your self to get her about 2 feet off the ground, things will be a lot more stable, but just make sure you have the room to recover from your mistakes.

One thing I did notice in my case, is that the more people you talk to the more difficult it sounds to do and you end up getting a mental block. You then make yourself think it is harder than it really is. I'm not saying it is easy by any means but did you not learn to ride a push bike?

Good luck!

8 days to learn, two charged birdseed Nicads and I was there :-)

Hi,
I hadn't intended to start a "how quick I learned, so how great am I" thread.
I should point out that my first heli was used and the tail motor burned out in a week. Replaced that only to have the main motor follow suit. As a mature student I have other commitments which take priority over my new hobby. Without the time available to concentrate on this hobby I nearly gave up completely on two occasions in the first three months. However I eventually managed to find the time over a free two week period to give 100% of my time, result..... a stable hover in a tiny training area.
I only point out my elongated learning curve to give hope to others.

I currently own 5 micro helicopters, the latest is a Hornet 2. I'm about to join my local club and take the exams to get qualified.
If I can do it so can anyone. You just need to devote the time and effort.

Hi there

I don't think anyone should have to justifigh the amount of time it take to learn to fly, we all take longer or shorter dependant on some many things. It took me about 2 months to get good enough to go to a scale body, but I did crash alot early on, the comments here are right, if your only one foot off the ground you are making life hard for yourself, having said that, I understand not wanting to go higher.
it does sound to me as if the original question seems to be one of trim and balance, many people rush this step and as a result the aircraft is unflyable. My thoughts, make sure its balaced and trimmed properly and it should lift off the ground with no trouble at all, then the fun can start.

Thanks for the tips.

I checked the main rotor baldes and they were unbalanced, i added a little wight in one of the blades to get them balanced. I tried to fly it again, but this time i took it higer and it is easier to fly that below one feet from the ground....

I´m still getting used to the controls for the heli, i´m not able to maintain a statis hover but i know that with practice i will be able to do it... The heli flyes a little bit better now....

Thanks...
