RE: How to get rid of the NO FLY ZONE in XTR?
I think the reason people get pissed off is because the reason for the flight sim is to safely LEARN maneuvers and how to fly, without risking damage to property, or injury to people. When you learn on a sim, you experiment with things you obviously would never do in real life.
Let me give you a perfect example.
I've been flying for 17 years, and I'm pretty good, but want to learn advanced maneuvers. I felt I was up against a wall in real life, so I bought AFP to try and jump-start my learning. I want to learn hovering, rolling circles, rolling harriers, etc. Many times while learning the rolling circle my virtual plane strayed over the virtual pits, but I continued the maneuver because there was no risk, and I was getting quality learning in how to control the plane. As I learned, my incursions went away. In real life, while really flying the rolling circle, I aborted about 75% before I learned it because I thought I *might* stray too far back.
That kind of realism has no place in a sim, If someone choses to enforce the "no flying over the pits" rule on a sim, it should be just like in reality-up to the discretion and skill of the pilot. Lets face it, there is no force field IRL to stop the planes, so what is this actually simulating? A better solution would be to have a .wav file of some guy screaming at you to "KEEP IT OUTTA THE PITS!" anytime you crossed the line! AFP has a field you can download where a dog barks at your airplane if you fly it near him, so I would bet it would be easy to model a "safety monitor" to yell, too.
