Hello everyone,
This No Fly Zone area in Reflex is REALLY getting on my nerves, and I was wondering if anyone knows how to turn it off. I know it is supposed to teach me not to fly over the pits etc...etc... but I would love to have the option to just turn off this really annoying feature.
I thank you all in advance.

Well clealy the boundaries are defined in the .wlp file but the problem is that no one but Reflex knows the format of the file. However you could try a "hack attack" - just edit a dew bytes at a time and see if anything you change has an effect on the stripes. Clearly the .wlp also contains ground elevation data so it'd be interesting to work out how that is defined too.
Personally I like the feature because the whole point is that it DOES teach you not to fly behind yourself which would be a very dangerous thing to do.

I agree it could be dangerous if you have the pits filled with cars and people, but that is not always the case. You may not even have pits if it is just a field for your own usage and in that case it is safe to fly how you want, where you want.
The limits should be able to be turned off. Just like in real life, sometimes you can fly there and sometimes you can't.

Hello there gentlman and thank you all for your kind replys.
I have to say I really agree with cummings66 there, they should have left that decision to the user, if I want to have those zones then I will just turn them on.
I really hope some smart guy out there can give Wright Flyer's idea a go and tell us how it can be hacked.
Thanks again. [:@]

Hi guys,
I'm just another guy reading the thread and digesting all this good info. But I wonder why everyone always wants to turn things off or have the ability to reduce the realism that XTR provides?! Could it be that we're all used to flying G2 and just can't get used to something that's different? Why would you want to practice flying behind you in an area that the AMA always restricts because of safety? It's an area of the "real" field that we normally don't see when we're concentring on our plane or heli, and a spectator or car etc can come up behind us at any time. I think XTR did flyers a big favor by teaching us to control our birds rather than allowing us to to aimlessly fly anywhere without regard to safety in the pits or the public. Fly behind you or over the pits and public areas in a comp and you're grounded!
I know we can all come up with justifications to support what ever side of a discussion we're on, but why sacrifice realism because "it was always doine that way"
When I changed my cellphone from Nokia to Motorola, I was p***ed off because it didn't make sense to me why I should have to buy a different car charger. Why can't they all use the same charger plugs?
XTR isn't designed as an upgrade to something like G2, but rather as the next step in model realism. If you want game graphics or fake trees that can appear or disappear with a key press, or want to be able to look down on your heli while you're flying, then XTR isn't for you. I mean, can you look down on the heli or zoom in when you're at the field and flying your actual model??
Let's face it, with XTR, if they were able to somehow get the smell of 20% nitro to come out of the speakers, there'd be no reason to go to the field!
We're all entitled to our opinions and none of them are more important than others. I just wanted to toss mine in the mix.

I think the reason people get pissed off is because the reason for the flight sim is to safely LEARN maneuvers and how to fly, without risking damage to property, or injury to people. When you learn on a sim, you experiment with things you obviously would never do in real life.
Let me give you a perfect example.
I've been flying for 17 years, and I'm pretty good, but want to learn advanced maneuvers. I felt I was up against a wall in real life, so I bought AFP to try and jump-start my learning. I want to learn hovering, rolling circles, rolling harriers, etc. Many times while learning the rolling circle my virtual plane strayed over the virtual pits, but I continued the maneuver because there was no risk, and I was getting quality learning in how to control the plane. As I learned, my incursions went away. In real life, while really flying the rolling circle, I aborted about 75% before I learned it because I thought I *might* stray too far back.
That kind of realism has no place in a sim, If someone choses to enforce the "no flying over the pits" rule on a sim, it should be just like in reality-up to the discretion and skill of the pilot. Lets face it, there is no force field IRL to stop the planes, so what is this actually simulating? A better solution would be to have a .wav file of some guy screaming at you to "KEEP IT OUTTA THE PITS!" anytime you crossed the line! AFP has a field you can download where a dog barks at your airplane if you fly it near him, so I would bet it would be easy to model a "safety monitor" to yell, too.

I see your point, bob, but let's face it, there are things about a Rolls Royce or a Mercedes 600 that we would probably want to change after driving them for awhile, but for the most part, they're dynamite products as they are. XTR is the same way.
Kind of like when we first think about getting married..... we tell them they're just about perfect and the best thing that ever happened to us.......but we spend the rest of our lives trying to change them!

Well I'm sure you are right, but in my case for example, I fly at my farm in the middle of nowhere all the time, I have never flyed in an AMA or any flying club, just my farm and I love going all over the place as It's only me. so I really think they should have put an option in there to turn the damn thing of, I'm playing my AFP now much more because of that problem.

Fatboy, I sincerely hope you continue to enjoy AFP....it is good sim, afterall.
But there's nothing like being at the field or the farm.....dammit, I wish there was some way of gettin the smell of fuel out of the speakers. That would be one heck of a simulation.

FatBoy,
Think of it as a good trainer for the day you get invited to an AMA club, you will be one of the people that doesn't fly over the pits by accident and or cause an accident in someones shorts.
Regards
P.S. This will make you a better pilot, something I strive for but don't seem to obtain.
