For something like the Shockflyer, brushless is not a necessity. However, with the brushed setup, Lithiums are.

Here is a short video to give you an idea of the performance on the stock 370 motor and a 3S 830 apogee. Just make sure if you use a deans antenna it is screwed it well. Mine was not (you will see it fall halfway through) and I lost responsivness and it took a nose dive when it got too close
