Pro-36 is $80 GP42 is $52 I see a $28 difference
Depends what you want, all the "oomph" you can put in that plane or an excellent use of a Tower 40 that's not being used.
I've got two GP-42s and one Pro-36 and you can't always believe what the manufacturer's claim as power... The Pro-36 is a little monster engine capable of power equal to most BB 40 sized engines, yet weighs 11 oz. It's TT's converted heli and the only true ABC engine in their stable (all the others are ABN I believe). I've only got about 10 6oz tanks through this engine, it's already turning 14k+ with an APC 10x5 prop running rich on 15%! Neither of my two GP-42 come close... Mine is currently flying with an APC 11x3 prop and it hovers
SIGNIFICANTLY better with the Pro-36 than with the GP-42 using the same prop.
Don't get me wrong, I think the GP-42s are great engines, there's no better for the cost. And compared to my 40LA and the Tower 40 that I've seen at my field, they make at least 10% more power and are much more reliable, but the Pro-36 makes about the same power of a BB 40 which should make 10-15% more than a brushing of the same size.
Do some searchin' on the Internet and you'll find that the Pro-36 is a favorite amoungst fun fliers! In fact you'll find that most people consider this $75 engine in the same class as the $120+ OS 32SX and Webra 32 Speed GT.
I had fun with the GP-42 in my Uproar, but now that the Pro-36 is in it, I'm having a BLAST!
