My Feedback: (17)
Tower has lowered the price on the Uproar 40 to an attractive $39.99. Anybody have feedback on this kit?
I've got an extra Tower .40 engine lying around - would this be a good fit? 11x4 prop, 10x5 or 10x6?
How fast a build is it? How does it fly?
Thanks,
Dave

Hey Dave,
Uproar is a fun airplane. I got one with an OS46fx. Turns 11.5x4 at nearly 13k. Weights just under 4 pounds. Goes vertical 'til out of sight.
Does a pretty good inverted flat spin with the the cg toward the rear. Square loops are okay but not spectacular with the throws I got. Throw in a lot of aileron and rolls are pretty quick.
I'm using 2 ailleron servo's with about 40% flaperon mixed in.
Slows down good with the flaperons on and high rate 'bout 40 degrees elevator.
I should have built mine with about 1/2 in of rudder surface added
to the tail. It knife edges pretty good with about 40deg of rudder but that's about allI have.
Today I was doing knife edge snaps and continuing course pretty good.
Kit builds easily with good instructions and plans with pretty good wood and hardware.
Keep it light and you'll have a good fun fly plane for 40 bucks.

Dave,
Did you take a look at the Adobe PDF file Tower has on the Uproar's assembly manual? It might give you a better idea of what goes into the assembly process. Wing area is 573 inches. Looks like a Tower 40 would be a fine match, if its running good for you. Unless you want a rocket. I've ordered a Fun 51 , and I'm also trying to decide what motor I want to use, either a TT GP-42 or a TT Pro-46. Guess it depends on just how much power you want on hand. I'm thinking a plain bearing 40 will still be a whole lot of fun. Then there's the problem of when the plane is "cashed", what are you going to want in the next plane. If its a smaller plane again like the Uproar, no problem. Just one interesting note, I learned to fly and flew a Sig Kadet Senior using a TT GP-42. Wing area 1150". Had lots of fun, going slow. I think a regular 40 in these planes is what they were designed for, why not use them. Tom

Don't bother with the Tower 40 (or any other brushing 40 sized motor), step up to a good/powerful BB 32-39 engine (I chose the TT Pro-36) and let 'er rip! Mines come out to the field with me every time I fly since I got her built (it's about 2 months old now). I had a TT GP-42, but it didn't give the 3.75lb model unlimited vertical, so I swapped in a Pro-36 and can hang on the prop and power out!
BTW, few planes can match the Uproars low speed flying capabilities.

"or any other brushing 40 sized motor" What's a "brushing". Is that a new manufacturer?
I don't know, power specs for the Pro-36 and the GP-42 are the same. I really wonder if there's much difference.
Pro-36 is $80 GP42 is $52 I see a $28 difference
Depends what you want, all the "oomph" you can put in that plane or an excellent use of a Tower 40 that's not being used.
If its running good, I think it would be a "good" fit.

Don't get me wrong, I think the GP-42s are great engines, there's no better for the cost. And compared to my 40LA and the Tower 40 that I've seen at my field, they make at least 10% more power and are much more reliable, but the Pro-36 makes about the same power of a BB 40 which should make 10-15% more than a brushing of the same size.
Do some searchin' on the Internet and you'll find that the Pro-36 is a favorite amoungst fun fliers! In fact you'll find that most people consider this $75 engine in the same class as the $120+ OS 32SX and Webra 32 Speed GT.
I had fun with the GP-42 in my Uproar, but now that the Pro-36 is in it, I'm having a BLAST!

Yeah f2racer, I hear you. The Pro-46 weighs 17oz. The Pro-36 sounds like its a real screamer, like its big brother the 46. I've had such good service from the GP-42 that I don't even know what comparable 40's are like. So now you got me goin, "hmmmmmmmm".
Let me ask you, did you have to add any nose weight?
Sometimes that consideration helps one decide a engine/plane combination.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I have a pair of TT.36PROs in my Twinstar. They are much friendlier, more reliable and stronger than the Tower .40... but my Tower .40 runs ok and is collecting dust... so....
I'm excited to try some slow flyin stunts on the cheap.. Sounds like the Uproar is a winner for $39.99.
Thanks again.

Its hard to beat a 39.95 kit. Just built it light, and you will have a blast. If your using the TT36 or 42 you will want to keep this plane under 3.75lbs. To have good vertical climbing. If you can figure out how to get this plane at 3.5lbs even better.

The Uproar is a great flier, I can fly mine (3.75lbs) at a crawl. I wouldn't be too concerned about weight with this model. Even 46 powered Uproars come out to about 4lbs.
