I posed this question and others to them via email, below are my questions and Mike's reply:

Currently my ignitions are Kettering type only. I do have a CDI in the
final stages that hopefully can be released
in a few months.
The current HED modules do not have regulators, the HED III(coming soon)
will have.
I really don't suggest "full time" operation of these modules as they were
designed to support model engine builders that
usually run their engines for short periods. The CDI (on single cylinder
engines) would be a better choice.
You might try CH Ignitions, they make a really nice CDI for model airplane
use.
