Why'd you send spam to all newsletter editors? Seems like a good way to lose votes to me.
Hi NC,
As Phil said what I sent to newsletter editors was my campaign statement and a simple request that they consider printing it in a upcoming issue of their club's publication. I even embedded the statement in the message body, where it certainly wasn't formated as neatly, so that there wasn't any undue concern over having to download an attachment. For the record I also sent hard copied USPS to those newsletter editors without email.
I'm asking for our members' vote of confidence to lead this organization for the next three years. I think it's only fair that they know something about the guy who's asking for their support. I can't think of a better conduit to the members in our clubs than the club newsletter. While I did give this some consideration, and anticipated some responses like yours, I felt the pluses to both the member and me far outweighed the negatives.
Our members are starving for communication from us. Especially those in a position of leadership within a club, and this includes newsletter editors. My guess was that the vast majority would appreciate the opportunity to provide my thoughts to their members. And based on the response I've received today I think I was right. Since I sent that out late last night I've received 158 responses. While not all of them said they were voting for me they all said, "Thanks I'll try to get this in." While I'm certain there are others out there, and I expect to hear from them, yours was the first negative response I've heard.
Interestingly, there was a side effect of sending out my statement. I didn't anticipate the number of follow-up questions I would receive, not only about my candidacy, but about AMA in general. I've spent most of today answering those questions, and my bet is I'll spend the better part of tomorrow doing the same. This is a good thing. It shows there are members out there who are interested in the direction of AMA. They just need a little incentive to get involved.
Anyhow, thanks for your comments.
Dave
