RE: Chip Hyde's Cap-X - Building & Flying
If you are having a problem getting the LE slot to fit onto the fuselage, first try to putting it on at a 45-50 degree angle with the LE points up near the landing gear and then rotating and sliding it forward into place. The fuse is tapered and the LE slot is tapered to match and it is a very tight fit. Makes a nice looking fit, but requires a little effort to accomplish. That being said, mine was simply too tight at the notch to go on at any angle. When I finally forced it on, it would only go part way on and was deforming the fuse in the process...I called and spoke with Chip about it. It appears to be a case where the clearance is tight and mine was just a little off to the wrong side of the tolerance. In the end, I would fix it, so I shaved off about 1/64 off the inside of each side of the notch. Mine is still a slip-fit and does have to be put on at an angle and rotated down. Planesplus provided some covering to make it look good. I think he would have replaced it if I had wanted him to.
If the problem is that the wing goes on, but the chord is too wide to fit the saddle with the notch fully seated, then you may need to take some off the TE.
