Default RE: How to Memorize Sequences?

I'm going through this myself for Unlimited practice. Not only does it help with unknowns, it also allows you to concentrate on overall flight presentation, let alone avoidance of zeros!

It really helps me if I talk it through with someone (whether they care or not is another story). My daughter or son work well (as long as they don't talk back too much). Then you can always talk to yourself.

Ok, there is a spin early on, so, ok enter the box from the left. Wind is probably over the right shoulder.

Pull up positive snap, push level.

One turn spin

three roll circle, ok, lets double check this one...

Ok, I'm back. I got the call sheet from the car. The battery is charging (otherwise I'd be flying). I left the back door open to keep the plane from overheating as I waited for my wife to come home. Now she is gone again and I'm stranded... til the battery charges.

Now, open up the book. Ok, three rolls outside. Now being inverted Want to push the rudder to the left, (don't worry about right or left, just push the rudder stick the same direction the plane is going (to the left)).

Now, lets start over,

Enter box from left, pull vertical, positive snap, lets do a positive snap to the left (that takes the plane away to help with positioning). Push level. 1 turn spin, exit inverted, ok push the rudder to the left and ailerons to the left to start the three roll circle to the outside.

Humpty bump, 8 point up, neg snap down.

Ok, from the beginning. Pull vertical snap left (out) exit upright, one turn spin, three roller to the outside (push sticks both to the left to start). Exit inverted push straight up 8 point roll (lets go left with the torque on the engine) half inside loop neg snap down, exit upright. Next is roll, opposite 3 of 2, opposite 6 of 4 exit up. OK think about this one. Roll right, left 3 of 2. Right six of 4.. Close the eyes. Ok here it comes from the left. There is the roll, there is the 3 of 2, there is the 6 of 4. This is a tough one. One more time… there is the roll, there is the 6 of 4.

Ok, from the beginning, Pull vertical snap out, exit up, spin, three rollers outside, push up, 8 point roll, humpty, neg snap down, exit up, roll, opposite 3 of 2, opposite 6 of 4. Next. Hammerhead, pos snap up, 5 of 5 down. Ok want to go out. Roll is in (towards the flight line). OK close eyes. Pull vertical pos snap (again to the left) Hammerhead, left 5 of 4 down.

OK from the beginning, pull vertical, pos snap left, exit up, 1 turn spin, three roller left rudder, then left aileron. Exit inverted. Push, 8 point up, half inside loop, neg snap down (lets do it to the right, that will take me out). Tough one. Roll, keep it axial, left 3 of 2, right 6 of 4 exit up. Pull up again pos snap to the left, hammer to the right. Left (to me) one, two, three, four, five. Push out. OK backup, pull vertical, wait , wait, wait, now do the pos snap to the left, put in an equal line, hold some left rudder to keep it from weather vaning (I think the wind is coming from the right shoulder). Now we have lots of time to come down on the 5 of 4. Exit inverted across box. Ok what’s next. Another tough one. Tailslide, 1 1/4 pos snap down. Let’s see, tail slide, there it is. Want to snap the direction we are going. That would be right.

From the start, pull, pos snap up, 1 turn spin, three roller outside (right rudder, aileron), push humpty 8 pt up, neg snap down. Get ready. Roll, opposite 3 of 2. Opposite 6 of 4. Pull wait… pos snap hammer, left 5 of 4 down, push line it up. There it is, tailslide. Right 1 ¼ pos snap down. Punch the up elevator to start, and end with down elevator, to keep the heading from going off (remember the pos snap will be with the wind…) Next…Vertical 8. Nice position (out) make the loops nice and round. Next. Half of a diamond loop. Simple pull 45, pull 90, exit inverted. Next Avalanche from top. OK 1/½ pos snaps at bottom. Lets do the pos snap out. Exit with down elevator. Keep a lot on concentration on the wings exiting. it’s a tough maneuver.

From the start. Pos snap up, exit up, spin , 3 rollers (Right, right) push 8 point roll left, half inside loop, neg snap down. Roll, opp 3 of 2, opp 6 of 4 (Close eyes, one two, three, four, five, six). Pull vertical, wait, snap out pos. Hammer, left 5 of 4 down, push neg cross box. Push, tailslide (right rudder will keep it from weather vaning before the slide) Pos 1 ¼ snap down. Vertical 8, half diamond, pull down into an avalanche, 1 ½ pos at the bottom, exit up. Next. Push vertical down, 1 ¼ pos snap exit cross. Lets look ahead. Pull vertical 1 ¼ neg snaps up exit inverted. Square loop from the top. Now, lets take that cross box out 1 ¼ pos snap to the left.

From the start. Vertical snap, spin, three roller (right right), 8 point left up, half inside, neg snap down, roll, 3 of 2 opposite, 6 of 4 opposite. Pull, snap up, hammer , left 5 of 4 down, tail slide, right 1 ¼ pos down., vertical 8, half diamond, avalanche 1 ½ snaps at bottom, exit up, push down left 1 ¼ pos snaps, cross box, pull left 1 ¼ neg snaps up square loop…. Now lets look at the sheet again. Square loop on the corner. Pos snap on 1st 45 degree, 4 pt roll on third 45 degree. Exit inverted exit box.

Stand up, stretch,….get a drink of water. OK from the start. Talk it through with your wife, dog, lampshade, caller, whatever. … Judges, I’ll be entering from the left. Take off. Entering the box. OK pull vertical, pos snap up, one positive spin, exit inverted. OK keep it relatively close because we have a circle coming up. OK circle three rolls to the outside. There is the left rudder to start. There is the left aileron. There is the down elevator, there is the right rudder. Firs cardinal point. There is the down elevator, there is the left rudder, there is the down elevator, there is the right rudder, upright on the far side. There is the up elevator, there is the right rudder, there is the down elevator….etc. Ok, push vertical, 8 point to the left. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven ,eight. Half inside loop, neg snap down. Roll, opposite 3 of 2, opposite 6 of 4, exit up. Pull up, wait. Pos snap out, hammerhead, left 5 of 4 down, exit cross box inverted. Push vertical, tailslide. Come on baby, come on baby. There’s the slide. Pos snap 1/¼ to the right. OK Remember go out pretty far for that hammer head. Take it out to the edge of the box. Because we want enough room to get a horizontal line in before we do the vertical 8. OK, Vertical 8, eat in some to wind correct. Half diamond loop. Avalanche, 1 ½ pos snaps, exit up. Pull 1 ¼ pos snaps left, exit up cross box. Pull, 1 ¼ neg snaps left, exit inverted. Diamond loop. Pos snap left on first leg. 4 point on third leg. Exit inverted. Sequence complete. Congratulations. You just learned the TOC Unknown # 5 from the 1998 TOC. Thanks for bearing with me the last 30 minutes. Now its time to go out to the field to fly it.

See You,
