Fun with Extase
Hey Mike,
I'm having fun with my Extase too. I still don't understand how you can fly it at the recommended CG and have fun. As I've posted earlier, I mounted my 5 oz battery in the tail, and my CG is 7" from LE, 2" behind recommended location, and I will move it further back for next weekend. One thing that needs mention with this plane, especially if landing on a paved runway, is that the gear needs some beefing up. My 16" props are becoming 15.5" props and my 15" props are becoming 14.5" props when doing harrier landings, or just doing tail wheel first landings.
Also, I would like a larger rudder on this plane. When hovering you really have to catch the rudder early, or it won't come back. Also it pitches down when giving rudder, which makes flat spins impossible he he. Inverted flat spins can not be made completely flat. It either needs some banking into the rotation for a tight spin, or when flattening it out, and feathereing the elevator, it becomes more of an inverted flat turn.
I like to come in inverted on the runway, down to a few inches, very slow, the do a quick waterfall to upright and continue the other way, down low and slow, a quick waterfall to inverted, do some low slow rolls. Experienced pilots are really in awe at how slow this low wing loading lets you do things.
