I recently did a review on the "Extase", (.60-size 3D ARF) which you can find at my web site, at http://www.nextcraft.com/rcpp_extase01.html
Now that I've got another 50 flights on it, I have to tell you that this is becoming one of the favorites at our club. Everybody really has a ball flying it. Today, I flew it around on high rates, with the (YS .91) at about 2500 rpm, and while just barely moving through the sky, was still able to roll the plane quickly, and slowly transition to a harrier. There was about a 15mph wind that let me easily bring the plane down in a harrier, and I'm not even a "3D guy" yet. Over and over, I did the same maneuver, which was to slow the plane WAY down, out over the tall grass, and just nurse it in low in a low angle of attack "sorta-harrier" and land with almost no rollout. This is a FUN airplane. (No, I don't work for RC Plane Power, nor do I receive any payment for any of this... It's just true.) The photo attached isn't from today... Just wanted to show you the airplane.)
You can contact RC Plane Power by calling (401) 231-5380, or by writing them at:

Hey Mike,
I'm having fun with my Extase too. I still don't understand how you can fly it at the recommended CG and have fun. As I've posted earlier, I mounted my 5 oz battery in the tail, and my CG is 7" from LE, 2" behind recommended location, and I will move it further back for next weekend. One thing that needs mention with this plane, especially if landing on a paved runway, is that the gear needs some beefing up. My 16" props are becoming 15.5" props and my 15" props are becoming 14.5" props when doing harrier landings, or just doing tail wheel first landings.
Also, I would like a larger rudder on this plane. When hovering you really have to catch the rudder early, or it won't come back. Also it pitches down when giving rudder, which makes flat spins impossible he he. Inverted flat spins can not be made completely flat. It either needs some banking into the rotation for a tight spin, or when flattening it out, and feathereing the elevator, it becomes more of an inverted flat turn.
I like to come in inverted on the runway, down to a few inches, very slow, the do a quick waterfall to upright and continue the other way, down low and slow, a quick waterfall to inverted, do some low slow rolls. Experienced pilots are really in awe at how slow this low wing loading lets you do things.

Just wondering DK. what did you set your engine incidence at? Also, it would be a first, but did you check the wing incidence. I have never had one off yet, but always could be a first?
I have set up 4 and sold 100. Never talked with anyone that had the CG that far back? I am curious???

I just assembled the Extase in my garage. I think I had listed my CG as 7 - 7 1/4" behind the leading edge. Well, on an empty tank it was 7 3/4" behind the leading edge, about 1/4" in front of the foremost servo mounting cross fir strip. My incidences are 0 degrees for both wing and horizontal stab/elevator. I have attached a picture showing the right thrust in the engine (three washers behind engine mount on the left side mounts. I doubt I'll get to fly next weekend, since they have a comp. at my field, but I will add 1 oz of lead to the tail for next flight. My CG probably starts at 7 1/4" behind leading edge with a full tank, and ends at 7 3/4" at end of flight. I do feel a difference as the flight time progresses, but in no way does the plane become troublesome or even hard to land. It does start to show minor trates of tail heaviness at landings, but nothing bad.
Here is a picture of the right thrust and the engine mount offset on the firewall.

here is a picture of the down thrust I put in the engine. Just one washer under each forward engine mount lug. Not a whole lot, but enough for the plane not to lay over on its back when hovering he he. She requires very little down elevator to stay level inverted.

HI D, I have set up a few of these planes. Never with a YS though. Never used any down thrust. (0 degrees) Between 1.5 and 2.25 degrees of right thrust. I think by the looks of it, you might try using 2 washers, not 3.
I set the fuel tank as close to the CG as I could. Always kept the battery as far back as poss.
I also had never used a CG beyond 6.5" from the LE. @ the root.
This plane should do almost anything!! You are not getting the performance out of her. If the incidence are correct in the wings, must be in the set up some where?
Lets see if we can find her limits! Let me know. Good luck.

Hi everybody!
Just a change of URLs...
In re-organizing my web site, I've moved the "Extase" review to http://homepage.mac.com/mikejames/rc..._extase01.html
