I thought if I went from a 3:1 to a 4:1 gearing, that would make it easier on the motor, plus it would draw less amps. Does that mean it would produce less thrust/power with all else being equal?
Actually, if u make the gear ratio smaller and use the same prop, it harder on the motor if u went from a 4:1 to a 3:1. With a lower gear ration like that, u draw more amps. With the lower gear ratio, u'd probably produce more power using the same prop.
This is why a lot of people who fly 3D never use direct drive. Its all about swinging the biggest prop and getting the most thrust.
