Default RE: Cermark Banshee

I thought if I went from a 3:1 to a 4:1 gearing, that would make it easier on the motor, plus it would draw less amps. Does that mean it would produce less thrust/power with all else being equal?

How much clearance does this plane have with the 16 inch prop? Can you fit a 17 inch prop and still be able to land safely?
It would be easier on the motor and draw less amps, however you are going to loose performance. There is a certain level that the motor must run at to be effecient and provide performance. This particular Mega is happy in the 50 amp range. The 22/20/2 I also recommend is good around 45-50 amps. I really dont recommend the 22/30/ for this plane, as there are better setups. I recommend the 22/20/2 or the CM-600. I saw the CM 600 fly a banchee today and it was good on 10 cells.

A 17" will fit with no problem. I flew the 17" on my banchee with the Hacker C40 before changing out to the Mega.

Andrew,
You are correct. There are some DD setups that will do well on 3D planes, but they are not as efficient as a geared motor.
