This image might help you understand the wing construction/hinging. All Comp-ARF models are hinged in the same way.

As for the paint, I am toying between using vinyl all over mine or getting it sprayed by a friend - he has the equipment to spray with 2-pack paint so the finish will be rock hard.

Could you spray your fuselage with enamel/cellulose or your preferred paint and then get it lacquered with 2-pack clear?? It'll be super shiny and rock hard then.
