About the mods "I added carbon to the firewall and this has prooved to be fine. I also added some carbon to the landing gear because I knew I would end up doing stupid things like flying in 20kt wind! I haven't broken the landing gear yet! been through 2 sets of wheels but they are cheep.."

How did you add the carbon to the Landing gear? Does it make a V? I am just finishing up mine, and I think the landing gear is the weak spot. I also added a very light tail wheel.

My kit came with the double firewall and recommends 2" tape down the sides. Did you also do that?
