Default RE: SKYMASTER F18

Hello Dave,

I do not know how the rudder fins of SM are set up, but I plan to do the following with my F-18C, to avoid visible links/rods.

The fin is removable to the direction of the hinge line (upwards and a bit outwards). I will mill a small area in the base of the rudder to be able to glue a 1/2 alu or plastic servo horn directly to the rudder with epoxy and milled cotton. The attachment is stranghtened with 2 M2x10 bolts first attached to the servo horn. The servo screw hole has to align with the hinge line. Also the horns have to be a tight fit to the servo output shaft. Now you have the fin with the rudder and the rudder has servo horn in the base of it. The servo is then mounted to the fuselage so, that just the servo output shaft will be visible above the fuse skin. Align the shaft with the horn and finalize the servo attachement. No servo screw is used, as when the rudder/fin is inserted and secured to its position, it will keep the horn from moving up.

This way you can use the size of servo you can put in the fuselage and no links will be visible. But this requires small clearanse between the fin base and rudder and this we have in our plane. I do not know how it is on the SM Hornet.

I first planned to use DS368 for this, but will now propably make it wiht DS168 or DS3328 due to side mounting possibility.

Hope the explanation is clear to you. If not, I can make a 3D picture of it...

BR,
Jussi
