I was at the field watching a mother and 8 year old son trying to fly a similar plane with no success. I offered to help and they were thrilled. The first flight it made a hard right and slammed into a metal walk-in container. It was actually OK so I adjusted the trim tabs to counter the turn and it actually flew and was controlable. I tried having the kid fly it while I had my hand on his but the thing was to squirelly to learn on. They were just glad to see that it flew. The wind came up while they charged the battery and in 5-10 mph it was unflyable. I'd guess that was your problem.
