I got notice that you had sent me a msg, but I couldn't access it when I logged in. Anyway, I'll give my answer here...

The short answer is that I never found a fiberglass cowl for my 4*40.

I had gone to Fiberglass Specialties (I never tried Stans, by the way) and they did their best to try to find one that fit. I sent them a profile, and they sent me a cowl to try. I even cut the cheeks off my existing 4*40 to try to make it work. The cowl that they sent me was close, but not close enough. I had to give them a lot of points for trying to help.

I had gone to them because someone on that particular thread was 'sure' that FS had a cowl, and if I remember, even hinted that they'd already bought one. As you can see, every once in a while you get some bogus info on any forum.. it's not the forum's fault. A very few people are just that way.

Anyway, FS and I chased our respective tails and FS did all they could to accomodate me. In the end, there wasn't enough market demand for them to generate a mold for a new cowl, and none of their existing cowl's fit.
