The Russian sukoi with a turbo prop is getting really close to hovering. With the advancements in composites I believe we will see a full size hover maybe even touch the tail. Hope I'm there.

I want to bring up another point regarding 3d. I'm not trying to stir the pot just open discussion. It may help prevent unneccasary rules. If you think about it during 3D maneuvers the airplanes forward speed is very slow. I'm more concerned about the 140mph jet than the 40% 3Ders. If something goes wrong the plane won't make it far. The airplane needs very coordinated and well timed inputs. If the motor or radio quits it will pile right there not a 100 yards away. I would rather be hit by a 40% with a 150 than a heli with composite rotors.

And as far as the pilot standing to close they posses skill levels way above most and he/she probably has the confidence and capability to do it safely. I think its awesome and hope to stand next to my 40% during a TR someday.
